So I was out in Leavenworh today doing a telecom job. We typically start by setting two GPS points to get coordinates/heights, then occupying one and back sighting the other.
After doing this, I set up on it and I had a difference of close to 8' in elevation when checking my back sight. After some looking around and thinking I determined the GPS shot was bad where I was occupying with the gun. I fired it back up a few feet away and got a much better reading with the correct height. I reset up and checked the back sight and was pretty much right on. It was pretty wild to get that much error.
I am assuming it was a case of multipath causing this error. Was relatively close to a tall electrical box adjacent to a light pole at an intersection.
GPS was a struggle there to lock today but it finally did after just letting it cook for about 10 minutes.
