We were a bit paranoid. That's why we approached it. The animals were pretty comfortable being around people though.

Far too close for comfort. I had a disgruntled person "accidentally" knock over my total station. That was 24 years ago and cost about $3000 at that time. Not something you ever wish to have happen again. Fortunately, I had an insurance policy in place that paid the entire bill.

I am glad those antlers didn't hook the total station. Insurance would have covered it but still not a fun conversation to have with the boss.

A few years ago we had a hound dog trail us up a line we were cutting. When he caught up to us and saw us, I guessed we spooked him. He turned around and high-tailed it back up the line the way we came running right thru an flattening the prism pole and bi-pod backsight we had set up. Fortunately, no damage was done.
